Social network Facebook may finally introduce its long-rumored new Facebook smartphone in the company-sponsored "Come See Our New Home on Android" media event scheduled on April 4, 2013 at the company's headquarters in CA.
Although rumors point to a Facebook smartphone as the reason behind the event, I'm predicting that there's something else that Facebook may possibly reveal on that day. Aside from the new Facebook phone, the company may also unveil a new software for mobile devices that'll be powered by Android OS that displays content from users' Facebook account on the smartphone's home screen. The new software is supposed to work in different Android handsets.
As far as the purported Facebook smartphone, rumors has it that it'll have Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS, a 1.5GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 4.3-inch HD Display, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera, and a capacitive Home button with function keys on the sides. Additional features of this phone may also include photo uploading, a deep Facebook integration, as well as SMS and MMS messaging. I've also reported here since last year about the HTC Facebook smartphone.
Facebook is believed to partner again with HTC in developing this "alleged" new FB smartphone. To note, Facebook and HTC previously teamed up on ChaCha and Salsa smartphones in the past without much success. Would a Facebook-HTC partnership going to click next time around? We'll see. Enjoy!
