Samsung is developing a wristwatch to create a new industry of wearable devices that perform similar tasks as smartphones, according to a report from Bloomberg. My gut tells me that it's going to be called Samsung S-Watch.
Lee Young Hee, Samsung's executive vice president (EVP) has, in fact, confirmed the plan in Bloomberg's report saying "We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."
However, according to Bloomberg, Hee did not comment on what features the watch may have, how much it would cost and when it would go on sale.
Well, how about if I give you a little preview of what I think this upcoming Samsung S-Watch is going to possibly feature and boasts about. As a tech evangelist, I predict the new Samsung wristwatch to have the following key features: a 1.5 to 2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen, a Corning Gorilla Glass, a Bluetooth connectivity, a removable Li-Ion battery, a VGA camera for video calls, as well as make outgoing phone calls and receive incoming phone calls.
Likewise, I'm predicting the Samsung wristwatch / S-Watch to feature a text-to-speech capability, an S-Voice speech recognition, as well as a predictive text input. This wearable watch may also be equipped with an internet browser, a loudspeaker, a GPS navigation and a map. This device may also be dust-proof, water resistant, and be able to send and receive MMS, EMS and SMS. I'm also predicting the S-Watch to be released in Q4 of 2013 or in early 2014.
In addition, I've already reported here in this humble site a few months ago about the possible specs and features of the purported Apple iWatch device. I've also made another report about the Apple smartwatch in this humble site.
Meanwhile, below is a short video footage of what might be the upcoming Samsung wristwatch. So it's going to be the Samsung S-Watch against the Apple iWatch to battle it out on the wearable watch category. Enjoy folks!
