We can get attached to our hair dryers, and while that’s fine at home as we all start traveling again, it’s not always ideal to pack a full size dryer. T3 Micro, makers of numerous hair dryers, stylers and gadgets I’ve had a chance to review have just sent me the new T3 Afar folding travel hair dryer.

Review: T3 Micro Afar portable folding travel hair dryer

I had the chance to test out the T3 Micro Afar over several weeks to see how it works, and if I can recommend it for you.

T3 Afar: what you get

T3 Micro Afar is a compact hair dryer designed to fold down for packing. It comes with a leather look (vegan) pouch where you can stash the concentrator nozzle that is also included.

The Afar has dual voltage for international travel, IonAir to tame frizz, multiple heat settings, a cool shot button to lock in your style.

By choosing the Afar, you’ll get three heat setting, two speeds, and a locking cool shot button that is genius for smoothing out and cooling your hair.

Folding Handle

The Afar dryer has three heat settings and two speed settings. The Cool Shot button also locks on or off, meaning you don’t need to press your finger on it when you need a longer blast of air; I actually really like this feature!

Using the T3 Afar compact dryer

I like using this hair dryer. It’s very quiet, definitely lightweight, and efficient; drying my hair quickly. With this dryer, like other full sized T3 dryers, I noticed a definite lack of frizz and static in my hair while using it, and I live in an extremely cold and dry city where static hair is usually the norm.

Speed & Power

I wouldn’t say this dryer seems ultra powerful; you’ll get more of a gentle but thorough dry and with the directional nozzles off, a nice cone of air that fits with this compact size. While the low and lower speed settings worked for me, I would love one more option for an extra body-boosting blast… but hey! I’m supposed to be on vacation!

t3 micro, afar, travel, folding, hair dryer, portable, best, reviewI thought the dryer was thorough, and it left me with a nice smooth blowout. In short, I don’t feel like I was getting short changed by using a smaller dryer than I normally would.

Heat settings

The heat isn’t extremely hot, even on the top-most setting. I couldn’t find any info about the actual temperatures the dryer puts out, so I can’t be specific. Even so, I was still able to style my hair as I normally would, and I obviously didn’t feel like the dryer was scorching my hair.

Drying time: it’s fast!

The speed at which this small dryer will dry hair is impressive. I have a lot of long hair and in my tests, I found the T3 Afar could get my hair about 90% of the way dry in about 3-4 minutes! Another 90 seconds or so and I was all but done; then of course there’s the fine drying and sectioning that I may or may not do on any given day, which adds another 5 minutes or more, depending how much time I want to devote to hair.

This good power and resulting speed isn’t surprising to me since I also use T3’s Featherweight Luxe and get similar results. These dryers are FAST.

Overall review: T3 Afar travel hairdryer

Overall This compact blow dryer is a beautiful package, and takes up less space than a full size, making it ideal for travel. Even so, it gives you just as much speed and shine as a full size, plus it will zap static and it left my hair feeling silky. I will also say it has a very long cord for a travel dryer, perfect for those awkward hotel rooms with no outlets!

Downsides? I would like one more higher speed option, but as I said, I was able to make due just fine.

The T3 Afar sells for about $179USD from Amazon or T3 Micro’s website.
