How to set up Alexa Home monitoring, use alexa as a security cameraIf you have a new Amazon Echo Show 8 and you want to try some of it’s new features, you might be watching this video because you’ve realized they’re not intuitive or easy to set up. So in this video I’ll show you how to set up Alexa Home Monitoring, and, with your Show 8 2nd generation, how to use Echo Show as a security camera.

How to set up Alexa Home Monitoring, or use Amazon Echo Show devices as a security camera

To use your Echo Show device as a security camera first make sure to turn on Home Monitoring directly on Echo Show 8. Start on your Echo Show Device:

    • Swipe down from the top of screen and select Settings.
    • Tap Camera and set the Home Monitoring toggle to On.
    • Once set up, your Echo Show 8 will appear as a camera in your Alexa app, or just
say, “Alexa, show me [device name]”
    • To view the camera in your Alexa App:
    • Go to Devices.
    • Choose Camera.
    • Select Echo Show 8 (or whichever device you want to respond

For how to view the camera on Echo Show, say, Hey Alexa, show me the {camera name}, or open the Alexa app, go to Cameras, then choose your Echo Show device.

That’s it. Now you can peek in on your space to make sure the kids are alright or to see what your dog is doing.

If you want to learn more about Amazon’s Echo range of smart speakers, smart speakers with screen, and smart digital assistant, you can check out my reviews of each of these devices (Amazon Echo Show 10, the 4th gen Echo and Echo Dot) here on the blog or the YouTube channel. If you have been waffling on whether or not to get one of these devices and want to know what it can do for you in your home, be sure to check out 15 Things you can do with Alexa. You can shop all Echo devices at Amazon, or check out the selection on sale at Walmart.

I do this partly for convenience of the reader (since I’ll almost always include a link to the company website or similar anyway) in case you want to read more or purchase but I also may get a small commission from the click, which helps me keep the blog running. Does the video calling and normal Alexa functions still work if home surveillance is activated?
