Trying out new beauty gadgets will never get old. While I’ve tried many of them, there is always new technology on the horizon, and in my mailbox! Last year, I reviewed the T3 Micro Twirl 360 curling iron and found it to be a well-rounded curling iron oozing with tech! However, those extra smarts contribute to the higher-than-average price. T3 offers a more cost effective option for that crowd called T3 SinglePass Curl Iron. I was interested to see if there is anything special about this curl iron without the cool auto-rotating and motion-sensing capabilities.
Summary
I found this iron gave me smooth glossy curls and it was easy to use. I like the design and it heats up fast.
Pros
- Sleek ceramic coating
- Nice design
- Excellent heat options
- Curls set well
- Long cord
- Easy to use
- Iron format means one handed operation
- Affordable
Cons
- What’s not to like?
How to use T3 SinglePass Curl Iron
I love T3’s form factor and the white and gold colour is perpetually chic. T3 SinglePass curling iron keeps up minimalist appearances where the temperature control just blends in with the design. The entire body, from the barrel to the handle, has no buttons or switches sticking out. And maybe worth pointing out – this is a curling iron, so it has a handle for the clip or tong, which lets you hold your hair in the iron without risk of burning your fingers as many of us have done with curling wands.
Once you plug in the curling iron, you’ll immediately see one of the five temperature light indicators near the base blinking.
The blinking should stop after a few seconds which means the iron is ready to use. Between the light array and start of the power cord is a small notch allowing you twist the base to cycle through the temperature settings, and you can get from 260F or 127C up to 410 F and 210 C.
Here’s the full list of temperature settings
-
- 1 light – 260°F / 127°C
- 2 lights – 300°F / 149°C
- 3 lights – 350°F / 177°C
- 4 lights – 390°F / 199°C
- 5 lights – 410°F / 210°C
T3’s user manual recommends the lowest two temperatures for damaged, fine, or chemically treated hair. Twisting and holding the knob for a couple of seconds will switch off the iron and remember the last setting.
Tech inside T3 SinglePass Curl Iron
The T3 SinglePass curling iron comes with a pair of technologies that separate it from the bulk of the sub-$100 clip curling irons. Within the device is a special microchip responsible for maintaining the five different heat settings and preventing these set temperatures from fluctuating. That heating technology works in tandem with the iron’s glossy ceramic barrel which T3 calls CeraGloss.
Unlike irons or multi stylers with different size barrels, here you’re limited to one size of curl. I chose the 1 inch size because I find it to be quite versatile; Leave the curls as they are for a more ringlet style look, or brush them out for beachy waves.
The SinglePass, as the name suggests should give you a solid curl in a single pass. I did find this to be true, but I’m not sure that’s because of any special tech T3 has in here… For the most part, if you choose the right temperature for your hair type, you should be able to get a curl with any iron by curling it once only. You might need multiple passes on cheaper irons without any temperature adjustability.
So the SinglePass iron is indeed a single pass, but that’s really par for the curling ion course.
Weight, Cord, Auto-off
The 1-inch model I’m reviewing here feels exceptionally light and the 8-foot power cord never got in the way while I was testing it. T3 designed the 63-watt SinglePass curling iron to be travel-friendly supporting both 110V and 220-240V voltages. There top of the unit features a handy cool-touch tip which doubles as a stand. If you forgot to unplug the unit, after an hour it will automatically switch off.
In addition to the 1-inch model, you can also opt for the 1 ¼-inch, 1 ½-inch, ½-inch and ¾-inch sizes.
Overall review: T3 SinglePass Curl Iron
Overall, I found this iron gave me smooth glossy curls and it was easy to use. I like the design and it heats up fast. It’s neat to go back to an iron after using many of T3’s curling wands, which are great by the way, and there’s something to be said for only needing one hand to hold your curls until they set.
In short, if you’re looking for a simple, more cost effective curling iron, the T3 SinglePass iron performs exactly as promised. It sells for about $169.99 USD and you can get it from T3 or Amazon.
