Camping technology has come a long way. Fabrics are thinner and more waterproof, and most gear is lighter than ever before. There’s also some crazy design innovations when it comes to tents. These are the coolest tents I have on my must-have list.

Coolest Tents: Coccoon Tree tent

The Coccoon Tree folks say these pods are meant to provide comfy tree-top accommodations for glamping businesses, but you could see folks with lots of disposable income hoisting one of these up in the yard. The 3 meter balls are said to be water resistent, aerodynamic and can be set up in hours by a few people using ropes.

Coolest Tents: Treeline Outdoors Roof Tent

Treeline’s base model tent, strapped to our Pathfinder for our trial.
Treeline also makes roof tents. This Canadian company’s version doesn’t have that hard shell top. Instead, it’s all canvas.
The Treeline tents look otherworldly; they jut out over nothing but air once unfolded.
Part of what makes it look so strange is that there are no legs to support these tents, they flip open and hold flat thanks to that thick aluminum base and a sturdy hinge that locks into itself. These tents are designed to be pop open and climb in. Or pop closed and hit the road.
